SubSurface crashes whenever I try to import dives from an Atomic Aquatics Cobalt 2

I have been running the lates version of subsurface (4.7.8) on a 2012
MacBook Pro running OSX 10.13.4. Connected to Atomic Aquatics Cobalt 2 in
USB mode

google shows a lot of results about "Illegal instruction: 4" but the
exact causes are kind of unclear.
some people mention that some binaries don't work on certain OSX
versions and they throw the same error.
