Guys,

I've got V.4.7.6 and have tried to download the new version and it
consistently FAILS! Windows is blocking it for security issues with the
certificate or something. I also have NO interest in signing up for GitHub
or whatever that is - all I want to do is download the latest software
version and download dives from my computer! My current version of the
software has hundreds of dives in it already but . . . the software refuses
to recognize my same Atomic Cobalt 2 that put many of the dives there! It
also insists on a COM3 connection - the Cobalt ONLY has a USB connection.

Please tell me how I can get the software update AND how to get the software
to recognize my Cobalt again! Finding your contact information is nearly
impossible on your site - please make it easier! This is VERY frustrating
. . . .

Dave,

I'm sorry our software is " VERY frustrating"
I have no idea why Windows is blocking the download, you'll have to disable whatever tool does that - this isn't something that we control.
Every announcement of Subsurface contains a link to our User Forum - not sure why you think that's hard to find.
As to why the Cobalt 2 isn't recognized anymore, also hard to guess without more information. Did this work with 4.7.6 in the past? If yes, then this isn't caused by Subsurface. If it was with a previous version of Subsurface, then consider going back to that version to see if it still works.

No idea. Can someone else try to help him?

And yeah, I realize, I'm often a bit of an ass, but calling me a Dick seems a bit rude...

Thanks Dick, but . . . .

I’ve turned off everything I can find in Windows that would block software installs and it still will not install. It downloads just fine, but will not install. All I get is a series of error messages . . . I don’t get announcements so don’t know anything about the User Forum. . .

Everything worked fine on the current version I have but now the software will not recognize the Cobalt and it insists on a COM3 connection . . . . all the Cobalt has is a USB connection so how to I overcome that? Atomic tech support has always recommended your software over theirs and of course, I have about 200 dives all logged nicely . . . . but can’t seem to add more.

Suggestions?

Hi Dave,

As Dirk mentioned, any issues with installation are beyond the scope of
Subsurface itself. Have you tried disabling any antivirus you're using?

With regards to the COM port, even physical USB connections may appear to
the system as a COM port; it's one of the vagaries of Windows device
management. If Subsurface is auto-selecting the port, have you tried
downloading the dives even when it says COM? Have you recently changed
dive/desktop computers or connection systems, or has this issue suddenly
appeared in the same setup you've been using?

You may find quicker and more pertinent help here, where other users that
may have experienced the same or similar issues can chime in:

<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/subsurface-divelog/categories>*

That's a better place to have general Subsurface use/bug conversations;
this list is mostly developer and internals discussion. If you email me a
link to the thread you create, we can shift the conversation over to there
and pick up from that :) I'll help with as much as I am able.

Thanks,
Jack

With regards to the COM port, even physical USB connections may appear to the system as a COM port; it's one of the vagaries of Windows device management. If Subsurface is auto-selecting the port, have you tried downloading the dives even when it says COM? Have you recently changed dive/desktop computers or connection systems, or has this issue suddenly appeared in the same setup you've been using? Subsurface is auto selecting and nothing happens. This same Cobalt 2 HAS previously downloaded all of its dives so that is what makes this incredibly frustrating!

You may find quicker and more pertinent help here, where other users that may have experienced the same or similar issues can chime in: As noted, I’ll do my best to dig into this but it may be a couple of days before I can.
